The internet is full of “FPS Boost” scripts, mysterious .reg files, and YouTubers claiming that disabling critical system components will somehow double your gaming performance.
At WinAurex, we believe in Engineering Discipline over Tweak Spam. This document debunks the most dangerous and placebo-driven myths in the Windows tweaking community, explaining why we refuse to include them in this repository.
Myth 1: “Disabling Windows Defender Boosts FPS”
Section titled “Myth 1: “Disabling Windows Defender Boosts FPS””The Myth: Windows Defender scans files in the background and ruins game performance. Disabling it completely via the registry or Group Policy will give you massive FPS gains.
The Reality: Windows Defender is deeply integrated into the OS kernel. Forcibly ripping it out often breaks Windows Updates, causes weird micro-stutters, and leaves your PC wide open to malware (which will actually destroy your performance).
The Engineered Solution: Instead of killing Defender, this framework respects its boundaries. If you want maximum performance, simply add your game folders to the Defender Exclusion List. This prevents real-time scanning on your game files without nuking your system’s security.
Myth 2: “TCP Optimizer & Network Registry Dumps lower Ping”
Section titled “Myth 2: “TCP Optimizer & Network Registry Dumps lower Ping””The Myth: Running “TCP Optimizer” or importing massive .reg files with network hex values will lower your latency and fix your ping in competitive games.
The Reality: Modern Windows (since Windows 7) utilizes advanced, auto-tuning network stacks. Hardcoding old Windows XP-era network parameters (TcpAckFrequency, TcpNoDelay) often degrades modern network performance. Your ping is determined by physical distance to the server and your ISP’s routing, not a magic registry key.
The Engineered Solution: We do not include network “snake oil” tweaks. The best network optimization is using an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi, and ensuring Windows Delivery Optimization (P2P background uploading) is disabled (which our framework does natively).
Myth 3: “Emptying Standby Memory (RAM Cleaners) makes games run faster”
Section titled “Myth 3: “Emptying Standby Memory (RAM Cleaners) makes games run faster””The Myth: Windows “wastes” RAM by filling it with cached files. Running a memory cleaner tool every 5 minutes to clear Standby Memory gives games more room to breathe.
The Reality: Unused RAM is wasted RAM. Windows intentionally caches frequently accessed files in Standby Memory so they load instantly. If a game needs more RAM, Windows instantaneously drops the cache and hands the memory to the game. Forcing Windows to clear the cache means the OS has to constantly fetch data from the slow hard drive/SSD again, causing massive stutters and freezing.
The Engineered Solution: Let the Windows Memory Manager do its job. We focus on disabling bloatware and telemetry services that actively consume CPU cycles, rather than fighting the RAM cache.
Myth 4: “Disabling all non-Microsoft Services is a good idea”
Section titled “Myth 4: “Disabling all non-Microsoft Services is a good idea””The Myth: Opening msconfig or using a batch script to blindly disable 50+ background services will give you a “barebones” ultra-fast OS.
The Reality: Blindly disabling services breaks functionality like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi printing, Windows Updates, Xbox Game Bar, and even audio drivers. You end up spending more time troubleshooting broken features than playing your games.

Myth 5: “CPU Unparking Tools increase performance”
Section titled “Myth 5: “CPU Unparking Tools increase performance””The Myth: Windows parks CPU cores to save power. You need a third-party tool to “unpark” them so all cores run at 100% all the time.
The Reality: On modern processors (Ryzen 3000+, Intel 10th Gen+), the CPU hardware itself manages core states much faster than Windows does. Furthermore, simply enabling the Ultimate Performance or High Performance power plan in Windows already disables core parking natively.
The Engineered Solution:
